  1. Interesting…….. I never realized that the Ibanez copies were actually low impedance. The L-5S has always puzzled me as to why it came with low impedance pickups (the first year only), but had no switch to bypass the transformer so it could be played in low impedance. Was it Ibanez the same way? Phot of my control cavity.

I think the Gator and TKL, SKB LP style cases are good fits.  I was considering a Gator brown deluxe, or the TKL Black LP Case (which is pretty much who made the Gibson Cases before they started seeking other countries of origin)

The Gator LP cases also fit the Gibson LP Tribute Jr DC Bass. They are longer than most other brands in the neck area……

  3. Hi & welcome! Your guitar looks to me to be an ES-330T. One of my books shows it was only made from 1959 to 1962.  I think they only made the two pickup version after that. You have a beautiful guitar there!!

  4. Years ago I bought a NOS case for a great price at a small music store. Ended up being a Ripper/Grabber case. Nothing I had fit in it, including a Les Paul Signature Bass. I ended up giving it away. A Ripper would likely fit in a Jack Casady case, but it might flop around. A Gibson 335 Bass (EB-2) would be the same size. Might have good luck with an aftermarket rectangular case.

  5. It’s likely that the capacitor(s) needs replacing. The dielectric fluid in the bigger caps goes bad if it hasn’t been used in a long time. Many of these larger caps were two or three capacitors in one & need to be replaced with individual caps of the proper value. Here are a few pics of old & new caps on a GA-5T.....

  6. This 1967 Gibson Factory tour film was just discovered recently. Towards the end, it shows the production line that the GSS amps were made. It shows both the larger speakers and the more common type. It also shows final inspection testing out an EB-2 Bass with what looks like a GA-5 Skylark amp.

  7. I ended up buying two Gator cases (made in China) for my Les Paul Jr DC basses. They were the only cases that were long enough to accommodate a short scale bass. I’ve been happy with them & have bought several other Gator Frameworks products. Their customer service has been the best I have experienced in years.

  8. If you search for “The Les Paul Forum”, there is a thread in the “Other Gibsons” section called “Where are they now…”. Strings Jr aka Randy was a former Gibson Nashville employee. He has answered many similar questions such as yours, he knows many of the employees who put their initials in pickup cavities, etc… after completing certain operations……..

  9. The original handle broke off. They were plastic & prone to breaking. I’ve had to fix quite a few through the years. This is how I fix mine with a similar handle to the original. Newer cases have handles that are much thicker where they use to break.
