RCT has your best hint
This isn't a forum where Gibson Relations people are active.

yea, It's a J200 but not exactly a standard
I see the bridge where there's bridge has inlays where there's usually nothing but a scalloped area that goes down to the top.

KidB, i think going off myriad videos on YouTube of people testing various LPs in guitar shops and picking the one they like best, it’s fair to say they are each unique and therefore not all the old stuff is equal or better than the new stuff…it’s all a subjective lottery 😄- we probably both envy and ridicule those who collect the high priced stuff because the frugal gene in us is stronger than in them!
I would have to have watched those videos to have my impression tainted one way or another. I can assure, I do not watch these.
And I also am not one who buys into "oldest is bestist"
My main players range from 25 to 30 years old, I've had these since they were new.
I can't really say how a pristine 50s Les Paul or Strat would really be I wouldn't pass up trying one. But I'm not even putting my hands on a guitar that costs $25/30k or more. + $100K? nope. That's all look, don't touch.
I don't envy the guy who can afford it, and I'm not one to ridicule how someone spends their own money. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

it's good to be "Joe"
LOL!
I really can't say how much better a 60 year les paul would be compared to my 30 year old les paul
don't really need to know either. that vintage stuff, aint my bag unless it's MY vintage stuff
that's different.
I think..

The necks are distressed and the distressing is different on each guitar. So there will be some guitars that have more/less wear on the neck. The ones I played were great, but I can totally see your situation being the case. Note* none of the ones I played had necks down to the bare wood!
50 minutes ago, PrairieDog said:Huh, in my daily constitutional around the web, I just came across someone offering a “recent gibson” (probably a j-45? Might have been ‘bird) but the pic of the neck was gruesome: bare wood. So I snorted about how much/hard you’d have to play a newer guitar to do that kind of damage, and scrolled on by. Now I’m second guessing. I don’t recall they were pitching it as an ML, and it must have been in the 2k range since I clicked in.
Wonder if I can reconstruct that particular search…
since a Pictures worth 1,000 words ...
here's three
My friend says the finish is called "sage green" which is a color that I don't ever recall, so this one here was a custom finish I suppose.
it's not a bad player, and sounds decent. it's light, with a little bit of neck dive.
but this is not how I'd want to spend $8k

semi related
I have here at the house a M-Labs SG, it's not mine, it's a friends who wanted me to play around with it for a while
(dude has like 40 guitars)
the neck had the finish "artificially" removed down to the bare wood
IMHO A disappointing decision.
Feels like crap whenever the hand rubs over that section which of course is a lot because they put it where most of the wear would be (first 6 frets.)
DOH! I don't know man,, this stuff aint for me

In all my years of playing I have never banged my junk with my guitar. Not sure what others are doing but I dare say they are doing something seriously wrong.
he could have a real long neck tenon,, ya know???

anyone know who makes Martin brand strings?
Even for Mando, I've never put a set on I like using.
I wander around on occasion trying different strings, but I am back to stringing things with D'Addario every time.

Add a photo if you can, sometimes it's not a crack but a lacquer line.

Nice score Ian!
10lbs is on the hefty end for sure.
If you can get a wide padded strap and you'll be ok for standing. One of my standards is almost 11lbs. that wide padded strap was a game changer for me.
I think mine is just a off the rack Levy strap.

I would put a correct strap pin on there, fill the holes, and form there leave it alone and play it.
It's already got enough stories to tell

so..
thread starts out as talkin about personal dynamics during discussions and for lack of a better word, debates.
followed by a page and a half of Fastfood posts.
And now as we get to the end of page 2, we're talking about Mesa Boogie amps
😆
at this point, I'm waiting for someone to yell "SQUIRRELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! "
Well played Forum, well played...

btw watch out you don’t have the pickup selector in the middle position
both volume controls effect volume of guitar
yes!
THIS!
In the middle position this will "blend" both pickups with the volume (and tone overall tone setting) favoring the pickup that is not being turned down.
Before doing anything just test each volume pot separately (Neck/Bridge) with the switch either on Neck OR on Bridge setting. Never test in the middle, it will do exactly what you are describing and that is exactly correct and how they are wired.

Hi everyone,
There is a thread posted here some time ago regarding fixing a curling pickguard.
It had a really good write up on making sure the pickguard stayed flat via heating the material and putting it between two large books.
I'm fixing my J200 and before I reapply the adhesive and put it back on, I plan to do this heating and book trick.
I'd like to review that, but I can't find the post. Anyone have a linky?
