The quote I remember from back in the 1960's was "It's better to have drugs and no money than money and no drugs"  😎

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. “weed will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no weed”

  2. I always enjoy a nice J-200. Of course I believe there are only nice J-200’s. Never get tired of reading about, seeing, & hearing them. Is it true that they were Ren’s favorite guitars? If so I can relate. Back in my collage days ( another lifetime away) one of my friends bought a D-18, & another friend bought a J-200. It was the first time in my life I ever had the chance to play guitars of this quality. I couldn’t afford either one, but fell instantly in love with both. The J-200 is definitely my favorite at this point in my life, followed closely by my Dove.

    I have a couple.  A 1937 L-Century and a 1934 HG-Century conversion.

IME -- pretty much like all maple B&S flat tops -- they have a lovely bright tone which works well my itself but will not cut in a complex mix.  Thus they don't work well as a lead instrument in various string bands, but they sound great behind voices in a less complex acoustic mix.  So for my late wife and I, they were roll players -- mostly for song circles and such.

Here is our friend George playing a folk song on the 1934 HG-Century.

That’s cool. Song is perfect for that guitar.

Micheal, Just to say you did,  if you have yet to.. consider going to try a J45, and if you can an SJ200.

SJ200s have a life of their own once you start getting them moving some air.  I love mine to death and back.

I am just saying before you pull the trigger,  check those out too.  Then if you still are leaning toward that bird, then she is the one, go catch it.

and no surprise the Epi didn't seem the same,  they are nice guitars, but I must add "for the money"...

What ever you decide, this is one purchase you will not ever regret.  Gibson acoustics are Awwwwwwwwwwwsome....

Great advice! I would add the Dove to that list, if you can find one?

the seller said he has some pictures of the Pickguard coming loose, I'll post them when they arrive..I'm hoping it lifted off rather than "Fell off" as he said...the guitar look beautiful I have the gimme's so I hope it's ok structuraly...I'm going to inspect it on Monday...I'll keep you posted...thanks..

I suspect the guitar is fine. I think the situation is, that the pick guard did not fall off from getting too hot, rather, the seller isn’t being completely honest with you about what actually happened to it. No big deal! I’m sure you’re going to love the guitar, & as others have already said the pick guard can be easily replaced.

Fret Doctor (which is bore oil) is the one to use.

2nd choice would be F-One (natural oils, no petroleum distillates).

Many of the other fretboard cleaners, such as Guitar Honey, do contain petroleum distillates.

Curious. What is the difference between Fret Doctor bore oil, & the R-One oil? Been reading on line, & not seeing actual ingredients of either. Both say they are a combination of natural oil???

  7. “I pulled out my SJ 200 after listening to this.”

I can’t seem to want to play anything other than my J- 200, or my Dove lately.  Nothing else hits the spot..........for now. Subject to change? I hope so.

JC, you're a gem. This forum would be greatly diminished without all the topics you start and new and interesting models you post for us to consider and discuss. I always look forward to learning something new or enjoying a fine instrument in a post that begins, "Folks, Check it out." You are like the forum's roving reporter and meeting facilitator all rolled onto one. You are very much appreciated. I sincerely hope you'll give it some thought and stick around.

    Couldn’t agree more.

I enjoy every one of Juan’s post. Even though I’m not able to purchase any of these guitars, I love seeing & learning about them. Seems to me that Gibson is really going for it, as far as trying to turn things around.
None of us know how it will turn out in the end, but I wish nothing but the best for Gibson. I hope you will reconsider Juan. This forum will not be the same without you.

Yes but when I got my last D-15M for $750 used in excellent condition I'm not paying that money for a 15 series. I've owned 3 and never paid over $750 for one. First one,  a '00 D-15, I gave to my stepson for graduating HS and told my wife I would be replacing it. She did not know I would replace it with a D-28. The second one I got I traded my ES-335 for a new '13 D-15M Burst and a Fender Am Dlx Strat for no cash. Then foolishly traded it to my friend for an '88 Am Std Fender Tele. Then last Xmas I found the '17 D-15M on GC's used site and nabbed it.

They’re pricey! Would love to have one, but no way I can swing it either. I need firewood, propane, & just shipped a 1920’s Galiano off to Jake Wildwood for neck reset. I’m scared! Couldn’t buy one if it was $750. lol
