Guard looks original and checking in the finish like I have on mine. I'm no expert but looks like you might have a rare bird after all.

As long as people can finance Gibson's they'll keep on selling them. The actually MSRP is irrelevant. Just like buying a vehicle, it's all about the monthly payment. Buyers just think a hundred bucks a month for a couple of years to get a J-45 no problem.
-
I suspect a lot of folks go the financing route. You can pay $221/month for 24 months and get yourself an SJ-200. So why purchasing outright is probably not an option for many folks there is a way to get a guitar you've always dreamed of owning. If people want something they'll find a way to get it. Though I agree prices are I insane.

Sorry I started a new thread!
I recently purchased one from the Everly website after my cart emptied on the Gibson site and it was classed as out of stock. The Gibson site claims only 30 would be made. I received the guitar within 48hrs and it had the worst finish to any new guitar I've ever seen. There is nothing on the the label or the certificates that show anything about it being limited to 30, and the Everly website makes no reference to that claim either. I noticed the cases have also been cheapened, dull pink interior, crappy buckles and the 'leather' handle is like a dog chew compared to Gibson USA cases in the 1990's. What a shame. I'm shocked it got through Gibson QA/QC. I have three custom shops - J200-TV 1958, J-180EB and J160e1961. All from 2010-2015 and they are beautiful. What's gone wrong at Gibson....!? It was so bad my wife and I actually think it might have been a fake, which is surely ridiculous and impossible.
Are you sure this of one the 30 new models. Sounds like you may have got a previous version or something else altogether.

The price of this Cat Stevens model almost makes me feel like my Noel Gallagher model was a good deal.

I purchased my J-185 used and the previous owner removed the UST and put in a K&K ultra pure mini. I have no comparison of how it sounded with the UST, but with the current set up, the unplugged sound is fantastic.
I have the K&K in mine also, no complaints with the unplugged tone either.

Got my J-185 from them a few years back via Reverb. Good dealing with them and I remember the guitar was packed extremely well.

Fantastic thanks for posting. I'm jealous of your playing 👍

Beautiful guitar. The condition is incredible it looks new.

My thought would be AT stands for Adirondack Top instead of the standard Sitka spruce top.

Anyone actually opened the little envelope with the Adidas sticker?
Wondering if it’s a sticker or a vinyl peel-n-stick that you can remove?
Haven't opened mine. I don't plan on sticking it on my guitar. Seems like it's held up well on NG's J-150 though considering all the years and gigs he's had it on there for.

Apparently Paul Weller scored one of the NG’s J 150’s :

Noel and Weller are very good friends. I suspect Noel gave him one as a gift.

Congrats I'm glad folks are finally getting these. Well worth the wait though. Sounds amazing right out the box.

Mine finally arrived today. It's a big beautiful guitar. Also want to thank Orchid for the updates.

Congrats, that top does have a beautiful grain. Enjoy.👍

I would think the use of maple combined with the thinner VOS finish probably shows up imperfections in the wood. A full gloss finish would most likely hide these imperfections.

Maybe if you had the "receipt" instead of a "recipe" they might have been able to help you out.

I get when you buy a guitar online you don't get the opportunity to inspect it or play it first. But who buys a guitar from a music store without playing or inspecting the guitar first.

I remember this video from Normans rare guitars a couple of years ago. This is a 68' with the screwed down pickguard:
as someone who owns a 63' Hummingbird which was in need of repair. I would recommend finding a good luthier/repairman to look it over and do any necessary repairs.

There's one on Reverb that's also missing the lyric sheet and adidas sticker:

Finally received mine today. I ordered a while ago w/ Wildwood Guitars. I knew this guitar would be available right in the middle of a move (retired out of the AF and moved to a different location). Anyway, they held onto it and was delivered to a local FedEx facility. I would upload pictures but the file is too large. The back of mine has huge flame. Looks and sounds fantastic.
Congrats. I ordered mine through Musicians Friend. Apparently they are still behind on shipping these out. Hopefully I'll get it in the next couple of weeks. Glad to hear your happy with yours.
Please help me figure out what year my 60s Hummingbird is :)

To get a proper valuation I would contact a vintage instrument dealer. Gruhn Guitars in Nashville do appraisals for a fee as do True Vintage Guitars in Birmingham Alabama. Worth it to get a professional opinion as your guitar could be worth a lot:
