  1. tryring to get new avatar working.
  2. Thanks again sg fan. It is amazing how expensive the sg customs are compared to the heritage cherry and ebony sg 3's. dawg and fan, i will be on vacation till next saturday, until then you guys keep rockin this thread... tom
  3. Thanks SG fan thats a great video that i did not see before. That custom has some serious blues tones to it, a really great sound. I have looked on you tube for sg custom and sg 3 vintage videos and have run into a wall trying to find. you have any others ? thanks tom
  4. welcome back sg fan and feel free to to add anything to thread, most people don't comment just view.. I thought it was clapton, and even looked up some older pics of him but did not see any like this one. There is a sg painted by hand like the ""fool" guitar on ebay but quite expensive...I thought it was a three pickup guitar at first.. whats up dawg ? tom
  5. dawg here is some blues for you, its not bad at all...... dawg who is that with the curley hair with the sg custom at the start of that video....i know his face but can remember who he is... later tom
  6. hey my dawg, Good to hear from you. want to let you know i sent a email to that old address and it gave me a failure notice. no, didn't get a new amp have been trying to get this house so avoiding any major purchases at this moment.. I did find a orange setting on my line 6, and i know the purists may come out, but it sounds damn close at lower volumes, but i am sure that would change at higher volumes...I can get the black sabbath iron man tone pretty well. Also got a couple packs of the dr blues pure nickel see if i can cut the treble out on this sg 3... The other thing i may do later is get a two volume, two tone wiring harness with the bumble bee or sprage cap to get a more grainy vintage tone out of it... I don't see that i will ever sell this axe so i figure it be worth it.. Send me a new email when you get a address, i need you to help me find some more vintage or modern sg 3 or sg custom videos to keep this thread going. rock on shredder, tom
  7. Another early Black Sabbath video, great stuff...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PueuiLzVr6w&feature=fvst
  8. hello players Another blast from the past, black sabbath with tommy lonni playing a gibson sg custom through a orange amp. This is really a great sound to my ears, and who said the sg's are not good guitars to play metal anyway? enjoy ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1G4JmbfvAQ tom brown
  9. Here is a video from the past with the guitarist playing a Gibson SG Custom. Notice the authoritive, grainy brown, bold, yet very smooth tone that comes from this guitar.... enjoy...........
  10. hey dawg hope all is well with you, i spotted this baby on ebay and thought it was interesting the price is up there, and it does have two volume and two tone control, but it does not have the magic chicken head switch.... http://cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-SG-LES-PAUL-HISTORIC-CUSTOM-SHOP-3-PICKUP-/170454992215?pt=Guitar now i have to stand by mt statement, the sg 3's are still under valued, especially for what you get for tone.... Also, i changed the title to include the SG custom because thats the one the old school guys played...looking for new video on those.. peace ...tom
  11. my dawg Problem is that when i went to gc got set up with the marshall within 5 minutes all the kids are coming in and cranking up the amps and can't hear myself think....tried the vox also, then the small fender dec, but hard to hear above the racket.... Think i am going to try daddys junky music they are not as busy, and i hear they have the blackstar line now, plus they have the standards. have to try the orange thats on the list........But if money and condo living were not involved, right now it seems the marshalls have the better tones....My friend has the little 15 watt s/s/ and that even sounds pretty good for a little amp...lol... .later dawg
  12. hey dawg played one of these when i was trying amps because it has the "57"s in it and boy this guitar sounded so good and light, very light.....I told the guy take it away because i was getting the itch, and the neck was very slim..... http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Custom-ES339-SemiHollow-Electric-Guitar-with-3060-Neck?sku=515256 Of course the sg 3 is the main blues machine for this player....lol later tom
  13. HEY DAWG, I RESIZE IT ON PHOTOBUCKET, THEN TRY TO MOVE IT HERE BUT IT WON'T MAKE IT BIGGER? LOL
  14. see if this works dawg http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a401/tombrown123/2.jpg i blew it to 200 percent in photobucket but it won't save it expanded.....? http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a401/tombrown123/2-2-1-2.jpg tom later
  15. Those tubes cost money, but remember some spend thousands struggling to get the right tone, and to me if you are that close a few hundred is like nothing compared to buying a GOOD amp, or new gibson guitar... I am gonna try that amp next chance i get..... About the dirty fingers, people also say that about the burstbucker pros on my studio, and when i bought it new they could be a little brittle and had to much treble, but i just lowered the pickups with the adjustment screw, and they softed up nice....but they had some treble, so i turn down the treble two notched and wah laa.....real excellant semi acoustic and burning overdrive sounds...now they still sell that studio for 799.00 at mf....and its one of the best bargins in the guitar world...all the hardware and pickups are exactly the same as certain standards, minus the binding (does not affect tone) and the finish, maple cap...thay also make some standards semi hollow now..... Thats what attracted me to the es 137, on semi acoustic guitars, and if you look at the prices for the es 335, the 137's are a steal...lol for 2k that is... let me try to post that picture again before my job kills me off...lol later my dawg
  16. That orange amp is the bomb, but he ahs the wrong guitar, lol, but i bet with a gibson it would have more grainy brown punch..... oh that guitar was close to me in enfield.... hey epi has a hollow body "tom delonge es 333" with dirty finger pickup'' check this out its real light.......... later my dawg....
  17. dawg check out this axe..... http://hartford.craigslist.org/msg/1868322195.html later tom
  18. hey dawg yea i was looking at a new marshall tube combo is 700, but has the 12 inch speaker think its 40 watts, lol, more then i need but it has the 12 inch speaker. the two tube combos with the 8 inch just didn't sound right that i had tried...Seems like the speaker can't push and open up. like it waffles out.........yes and to tell the truth, my line 6 comes real close to sounding like a few different amps, but after listening to the sg you tube i sent , now that tone was real sweet... I actually played a prs through a used genz amp that was a big beast, and it had some touch sense that was real sweet, very pure..they make real high end stuff, glad you made a good buy...with all the stuff available its not always easy....later daug............................tom
  19. dawg whats up rocker, yeah i had a gibson ga 5 with 8 inch speaker, didn't sound that great but then i hooked in the line 6 celestion 12 inch speaker and man that lil amp would crank, but it had to be pushed real loud to break up.. Then i had a crate 30 watt tube, again had tto be cranked up to sound good and it rattled after three days so i brought it back to G.C. and the guy tried to give me a hard time, wrong guy, lol..... my friend has a Solid state amp with some good pedals he swears its the way to go for lower end practice when you can't turn it up...his rig sounds nice, but the marshall half stack sound is stuck in my head, lol.. rock on big dawg.......tom
  20. dawg thats looks like a killer setup there, that would give nosebleeds if your not careful. tried some amps yesterday, the blackstars are nice, but i actually really like the marshall with the gibson guitar, for some reason it seems to bring out the pickups better.....but as you know a tube half stack is not cheap so i will sit tight for a bit.... yeah the pic i sent was taken by a telephone and loaded to the pc, i will try a real camera soon..... rock on
  21. The sg is a great guitar dawg, i was listening to ""the who'" i think it was won't get fooled again and i can hear tone of that sg very clear, the 490's have their own voice, but also can be brittle when not used the correct way... I always try to listen only to the guitar when i am studying music, takes some work though did you see the 50's tribute with the p90 's and orange drops caps? Man i am gettin a itch i can't scratch, i am gonna have to check out that axe...1300 msrp is a good deal.... hey i didn't realize the sg 3 single coil had a chicken head switch, that guitar must have some killer single coil sounds, i had a g&l s500 premium that combined bridge and middle and it softens the single coil, but gives it more depth and strength....Thats a big weakness with fenders, the split positions are very weak... kepp rockin till i come knockin dawg....tom
  22. whats up dawg saw your question on ask henry and posted the same, you would think they would have sales records of how many they sold to deal or something because in limited runs of guitars like ours the value is affected big time by the number produced.... maybe they were not a big hit then, sometimes people aren't ready for new products... put new strings on the sg 3 for the first time, some nickle steel ghs boomers( 10"s of course.lol) and the sound difference is amazing...knew the old ones were flat but wanted to cool off the brightness, strings really affect tone....next set will be some pure nickel Flatwound........real vintage sound you have to rock the house at least once a day, or your not living....... quote from tom brown.lol
  23. dawg whats up? have been meaning to ask, Do you have strap lock system for the sg 3 ?and if so , which one do you use? Tried to put a strap on the sg 3 yesterday and it didn;t feel to safe...And that sg is not light compared to other sg's but that why it holds a note till next tuesday my brother.... still working on some recordings, when i get one on a mp3 i will post, recorded 5 using wav file and didn't realize the limitationa of that format..... keep in touch and keep rockin the house.....tom
