  1. Milk Carton Kids also are mic-only users. I saw Gillian Welch in 2011 in St. Louis and the crowd was ridiculously loud and conversant and stupidly drunk. The mic only performance did not suffer from crowd stupidity.
If the crowd drowns out the performer, perhaps it may be best to accept the role of being a minor distraction in a sea of babble.
I prefer my front porch, the desire to perform disappeared in my rear view mirror long ago.
Best wishes for success on your sonic quest.

Try the Seymour Duncan MagMic, they're a brilliant dual source mag pickup with a miniature condenser mic built in and onboard blending, so no need for an external mic/lead/stand etc. Super transparent and warm. I use one in my '41 Reissue SJ100, and it often gets compliments at live shows. If you can live with the look of a soundhole pickup (I quite like the businesslike visuals), the MagMic is a terrific option.

Does the Seymour Duncan MagMic need a pre amp or other device between it and the guitar amp?

  3. Rosewood and ebony ?

    What a great idea.

It is a great idea- Gibson has produced runs of j45 rosewood models with ebony, and i have a Martin jumbo and a Whipple Creek om, both of which have rosewood b/s with ebony bridge and fretboard.

Nice looking Taylor, the youtube samples have sounded very good, not like that shrill crinkly tinny-ness I usually associate with Taylor.

  4. I have tried many different types of fingerpicks- most were used only a few minutes. The pic you posted is one of the sets that i have tried. I even have a $40 (!?) Blue Chip thumbpick i bought 4 or 5 years ago with less than 15 minutes of play on it. As with strings, i find that recommendations helped me discover items previously unknown to me, but buying and trying is the only way to know for sure. My pick (insert rimshot here) is Dunlop clear plastic finger and thumb picks, fashioned to perfectly fit each tip. Best wishes on your search.
