ArticSg.... I think with these holiday special editions they add a little extra bonus thus the metal case. I think the standard should come with a case at what price it is.

What I found interesting is that guitar center separated the cost of the case and guitar in the final sales receipt. I think the case was listed as 499? With the 15% discount they gave me... it’s nearly half the price of the guitar.  That metal case is very nice but heavy for such a thin and light guitar.

You're right about that.  Those HP cases are heavy, and they sure do dent/scratch easily.

  2. That is purty!

my question is, if Gibson can put that out that upgraded SG Standard (which is a modern version) for $1599, with the HP titanium steel case, why in the world couldn't they included the standard brown tolex case with the regular SG Standard for the $1499 that they are asked for it with the padded soft case??    This makes NO sense whts so ever!  realcrazy.gif

We all asked why not just charge a few more buck and include the hard case.   Better yet, why not charge $1599 for Modern SG Standard and included that steel case.  It still cheaper for them than the rose colored SG Standard package above.

Think about it, the Rose Gold SG Standard is the same exact model as the Modern SG Standard except for paint color, white plastics, gold plated tuners and top tail bolts, all of which actually actually add to cost over the regular SG Standard.

This is just plain crazy!   Gibson has lost it... well me from buying any new SG Standards anyways, lol

If the brown tolex hard cases come back to the basic SG Standard, I will buy again.   I would have bought the 2019/Modern SG Standard in cherry and one of CME special builds they sell for my collection  if they would have included that factory brown hard case 🙂

Can you get any system to fit a Vibrola trem to an SG without drilling into the body like a Vibramate for a Bigsby?

No, there's no adapter that lets you fit a Maestro Vibrola to the SG, as the Vibrabate does for the Bigsby.

Whoever figures that one out will probably make some $$$. 😉

  4. Yep should have the silver inserts.   You may still have the original knobs.  Sometimes when one of the silver inserts fall off, the owner will pull the others off so it matches.

Thats a beautiful SG btw!  drool.gif

Sorry, I have no Gibson acoustic, lots of electrics though..    If you have access to a guitar/music shop, stop and take a look at the Yamahas.   The FS series is a smaller, great sounding, concert sized acoustic.   I have the FS820, solid Sitka spruce top with Mahogany back and sides.  The FS830 is same build, but comes with Rosewwod back and sides and a little bit more bling.  They run $249 and $299 respectively.   These little dynamos pack a lot punch for $$.    The Martin 00 and 0 sizes are smaller yet and one of those may be perfect.

Good luck on finding "the one" ! 🙂

  6. All good points!   For only a small investment in tools, that will pay for themselves in one or two setups, it's worth it.  As stated earlier, you may even have the tools on hand.   I would recommend investing in a set of good files, especially nut files.  Trust me on this one.

Once you do a couple setups, you'll wonder why you hadn't learned it earlier.

  7. If your humbucker has 4 wires (5 if you count the bare groundwire), then yes.

The humbucker in the above post can be setup for "coil split" as the two sets of wires, one pair for each coil, can be wired accordingly.

Neither of these coils are "tapped" mid winding. 😉

  8. Hi there, and welcome to the board!    welcome.gif

I can't help with dating your guitar, but there are knowledgeable folks here that can, or at least steer you in the right direction.

Also, maybe  post a question about it in the Gibson Acoustic forum further down the site.

    Good luck! 🙂

  9. Personally, I would go with the Gibson Studio or Tribute.   Just my preference.  🙂

Btw, nothing  wrong with the Gibson 2018 LP Tribute.   The 2018 has a solid body with no weight relief, so it should be heavy (10+ lbs), not light.  Lots of sustain, a true rock monster!  I love mine. 😉

That Tribute's been out for 2 years. I would think you could get that for a $1,000 or less.

...And now for the gratuitous pic   grin.gif
