  1. It's a Martin 2008 00-18vs, which is a custom designed by members of the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum. I was at Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto recently having some strap buttons put on and started playing this while I waited. After a couple days the thought of it was corroding my brain so I went back and bought it. It's only a little smaller than a Blues King but the sound is so different. Churchy with never ending sustain. Playing it is like the way I fiddle with the black keys on a piano with the sustain pedal held down. It comes across kind of bass heavy on recordings so I need to work on the recording setup to capture a more genuine sound.

  3. The use of the 'only a Gibson' banner was kind of unsystematic in the first few years of production at Bozeman. It would seem that they applied the banner somewhat arbitrarily. Later it was associated with up-scale models like the TV's. In some ways it is unfortunate that most of the acoustics with the banner headstock made in Bozeman are not all that similar in build to the vintage banner-headstock Gibsons. Nowadays the banner is just a cosmetic fillip and does not mean the guitar shares other characteristics with the wartime banner models, IMO.
  4. I don't think I know Bill Williams. I think I picked up the term from descriptions of jazz players meandering type of solo, but I guess I've heard other people use it too. To me it's not really playing a whole song, playing around with it or something...

  5. You got a good deal on that. Congratulations! It's a fine instrument. I think they are now making something similar and calling it J-200 Studio.
  6. Bummer. Maybe see a doctor. Take care of yourself.
  7. I got one from Stewart MacDonald online. It's like a good-sized screw driver with a thin-walled socket wrench on the end. It cost about 10 bucks and it works quite well. If you get tools that are too small they have a tendency to drop on the guitar and leave a ding.
