capmaster
Hello Carlocki, and welcome here. There are not so many Gibson models to choose from at the moment. I think they all are fine but it should match your taste and your budget as well. In case you have the opportunity to check out some at a dealer, I would do so. Perhaps you check some Epiphone Explorers, too - they are not a copy but licensed originals featuring the same iconic shapes.

GibSinCity
Some people think Gibson Explorers are only good for Metal/Hard Rock. But if you know how to use/mix the volume controls, and set up your amp correctly, you can get many tones. This is a test of an "Explorer Pro", but most Explorers come with the same 496R & 500T pickups. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKkBUWrTgd4&feature=player_detailpage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiiuTBXtY4c&feature=player_detailpage
Frank V
I love my made in 2005 Gibson Explorer in white. I also bought a 2003 white V and to me the explorer sounds and plays better. I've had an ESP LTD Explorer since 1998 that plays faster and with lower action, but it doesn't have the same thick-full and sweet tone at the Gibby explorer, and not to mention the Gibby feels much more solid. As for the actual ESP MIJ Explorer... it comes with EMG-81s so it's a one trick pony lol
