houndman55
Hey, Is it possible to play metal on a Epiphone dot? What is specifically mean is how resistant is the center block to feedback. Like if I crank it up will the semi hollow body feedback?
brad1
Yep! I do it all the time. Remember, feedback can be controlled a lot by your proximity to the amp, and the angle the guitar is facing in relation to the amp.
ErickC
I play a full hollowbody ES-125 with a Rat into a JCM900. It really doesn't seem to feed back much differently than any other guitar. Neither does the Danelectro or my brother's Riviera. A gate may be a wise purchase if your experience differs. Come to think of it, Grohl uses a Trini Lopez, which, like the Dot, is also just a glorified ES-335, and he uses a lot of gain, too. There's probably a gate at work there to keep any unwanted feedback under control.
Stahlbiest
My Sheraton actually adds some nice percussive chunk to thrashmetal riffs. The centerblock seems to help a lot, although you might wanna turn down the bass a bit on some amps. I have to say though, that it wouldn't be my guitar of choice for something like technical deathmetal, so it depends a bit on the kind of metal you wanna play... Let's just say, it's possible, but there are guitars that are better suited for metal.
