Nut on a 1986 J-30

Anyone know if the nut on my 86 J-30 is bone or plastic? Also, anyone tried Martin fx flex core silk & phosphor .011 - .047? On mine it really straightened out the base to treble imbalance and this is coming from a guy who used mostly Martin Marquis mediums for many years. The only problem is the buzz....

I believe they were Tusq but since it's a 1986 it could be original or might have been changed. If you can't tell, and the tone is everything you want (that's why you bought it) leave it alone. If you're looking for a specific change to your tone - talk to your luthier and see what he/she advises.

Yeah, I think you're right about the Tusq. The sound is great and very similar to a Bird I bought new in 74. I even like the sound better than the new stuff I've tried.
