bhodiuk
Hi I noticed that lots of shops in UK and USA seem to sell the above named guitar as chambered! I thought VOS meant "Vintage Original Specification" so why are some of these guitars chambered?? My apologies if I missed something Thanks for listening
Custom Admin
yes, we did some chambered R8s with VOS finish on 2007. i suspect we'll do more this year...
bhodiuk
Hi Thanks for your response. Forgive me if I sound blunt, but I thought VOS meant what it said. A 1958 Les Paul Standard was not chambered in those days. So how can you call it a VOS if its chambered? Thanks
Custom Admin
VOS really refers only to the lightly aged look of the finish and hardware.
bhodiuk
Ahhh I see...............although it is a little bit misleading. Check out what the shops advertise! thank you for answering my question.
Custom Admin
also these guitars, rather then being serialized in standard Historic fashion (i.e., 8 8XXX), will have serial numbers preceeded by a "CR" prefix...further setting them apart frfom "normal" Historics... bhodiuk
Thanks again for taking the time to answer all my questions. I do think that Chambered guitars should not be classified as VOS, even though you state quite clearly that is only a VOS finish and hardware. VOS is VOS (chambered is not) and thats what confuses people when it comes to purchasing a VOS IMHO. Gibson have always made fantastic guitars, and I can remember owning a 59' LP Standard back in the sixties. I could kick myself now!
