Yote Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I recently bought a 2001 Gibson ES-135 burst from a local music store. Upon bringing it home, I notice some things: The serial number indicated it was made in the Nashville plant but it has a 'Made in Memphis' badge on the back of the headstock. The toggle switch has a hex nut Is this a fake or genuine? EDIT: some pictures
Kenny V Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Looks genuine to me. All he 135 toggle switches looked like that. My 2002 looked the same. Not sure about the Memphis sticker, it may have been put on by a previous owner. Great guitar, I'm sorry I sold mine.
bobouz Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Not sure about the Memphis sticker, it may have been put on by a previous owner. Actually, I recall seeing this sticker/logo on some ES models at the time. 2001 was the early phase of the Memphis plant. The inside label should say either Memphis or Nashville, and this would be the most accurate indicator of where it was made. But with the Memphis logo on the neck, the issue is already settled.
MichaelDH Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I recently bought a 2002 ES 137 Premier, and like yours, it also has the "Memphis" sticker, but the dater project shows it being made in Nashville.
