slk
What do you guys think of a 70's era Epiphone EA-250 Riviera?? Any good. I see that they appear to have a bolt on neck. Is that a good thing or not? Steve
Parabar
The EA-250 is a "Riviera" in name only. That same model was also pimped as a "Casino" at one point, to which it bears no relation either. A true Riviera has a set neck (not bolt-on), a center block inside the body and humbucking pickups. Nothing wrong with bolt-on necks --- all Strats and Telecasters have 'em --- it's just not appropriate to that design of guitar. The EA-250 was built by Matsumoku in Japan, and is one of the models that gave rise to the derogatory term "cheap Japanese guitar" in the 70's. The same model was sold under other brand names as well, including Ventura, Aria, Univox, Orpheus, and others. Matsumoku made some wonderful guitars, but the EA-250 isn't one of them. There are far better instruments available today (at comparable or cheaper prices) than the turkey which was foisted off by Epiphone as the EA-250! slk
You are right on. Thanks for the info. I called a luthier today and he said the exact same thing. Stay clear of those guitars.
