This is a Terada made Casino from 96.

Serial number 66938.

Lovely guitar, and certainly with many of the right appointments.

Of course the serial number being off by one digit is still a puzzle.

Out of curiosity, just looked at my 2005 Terada-made McCartney Texan. The serial number has six digits, but it starts with 05xxxx. My 2009 Elitist Casino also has six digits and a letter prefix, starting with T90xxxx. My 2000 AIUSA JLH Sheraton has a completely different serial number scheme from the first year of production with four digits (00xx), while later production carried a longer number.

That's as much as I can definitively share re Terada serial numbers!

My McCartney Texan was serial number 040007, and I agree that Epiphone Japan serials are all over the place.

I do think however that Epiphone was producing in limited numbers an almost Kalamazoo spec'd Casino carcass for a

few years before the release of the Elitist/AIUSA models.

I have always taken the story of J.T. Riboloff's visit to the Dakota, to fully inspect/measure John's Casino with a pinch of salt ( I've seen the photographs), as the resultant AIUSA Casino's are a little off in the specs department.

The big difference between John's actual Casino, and those we are discussing, is the neck joint. The heel on John's Casino is larger and rounder when viewed from the back and side, than that found on the reissues, and the neck block protrudes further into the neck pickup cavity on the original Kalamazoo spec guitars with a cut out in it to allow the neck P90 to fit. Whereas the reissues finish flush with the front lip of the neck pickup cavity.

I think the AIUSA/Elite model used a body/neck that had already been in production, all be it in small numbers.

Whatever the truth of the matter, it's an interesting topic.

I wonder if Tynan will get the guitar?

Steve - I'm more convinced now that this indeed could be the case. Hopefully at some point, this model's origin will be revealed to us in greater detail. How fortunate that the guitar has surfaced, enabling us to take a look at it.

Many thanks for all your helpful info..... Bob
