RANEYM305
My 1970 J-50 has an aftermarket pickguard on it that appears to be glued on. I've come across a 1971 pickguard that I'd like to replace the aftermarket guard with, but I'm not sure how to safely remove the pickguard. Any suggestions? jchabalk
search around on the forum a little and you'll find a few threads about it. Generally what gets discussed is heating the pickguard with a hair dryer until the glue softens and then slowly pulling it off. good luck with it! be sure to post before / after pix and let us know how it works out ;) EDIT: Here are a couple that i dug up: http://forums.gibson.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=4816 http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Luthier/Technique/Guitar/Pickguards/PeelGuard/peelguard.html
onewilyfool
Don't heat it so much that the glue melts between the braces and the top.....if it is an expensive guitar....best let a guitar repair tech do it.....
