angeloumusic
Dear All, I am new here. I have a 1973 J45. It appears to me that during the 1970s period the J45 (square shouldered) and Hummingbird were identical except for the pearl fretboard inlay, headstock and pickguard. Am I missing something, is there anything meaningfully different during that period with the bracing or other structural features? Again talking about that period only. Thank you, Remy
zombywoof
Nope you are missing nothing. In the late-1960s Gibson decided to finish the job they had started in 1963 of creating homogenized versions of their slope shoulder jumbos pretty much differing only in bling. angeloumusic
Given that nobody has quibbled, I guess I have my answer. I am the proud owner of a hummingbird minus the bling. Thanks.
zombywoof
This one is really no mystery. By standardizing to the nth degree Gibson managed to cut the cost of production by making it more efficient to the point even scale lengths were now all the same. One size fits all.
