I recently became the proud owner of a 1956 ES 135. These guitars were only in production between 1956 to 1958. Only about 550 were made, which makes this one a scarce one. Gibson would use the ES 135 name in the 90's and on but this is the original ES 135 from the 50's. However, I'm almost certain the tailpiece is NOT original to this guitar. Has anyone seen this type of tailpiece on any other 50's archtop guitars?

You're correct- a replaced tailpiece, but that's not the end of the world. would have come with a standard trapeze tailpiece- you could replace it with a new one, or keep an eye on ebay for a vintage one, for under $100. Congrats- looks sweet!
