mjeffbr
Hello friends, yesterday I changed the strings after a long period not really playing electric guitars, put Elixir 0.10, as far as I can remember the old strings were 0.10 too, but not Elixir. Well today I noticed the mark of the Stop Tailpiece screw on the paint, and I can see it looks like cracking, as if it was pulling out, can only be noticeable on the heavy strings screw but I'm panicking here! What would the cause of this be - humidity, tension I leave it either on the stand or in the case, it's a Standard, made in 2006 Any help will be much appreciated pics http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss218/mjeffbr/26032009320.jpg http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss218/mjeffbr/26032009322.jpg http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss218/mjeffbr/26032009323.jpg
iSoto
If I can see the problem correctly, then it must be the same thing that happened on my 2007 SG Special Faded. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's anything major. I think that it's some kind of excess wood left there from when drilling the holes for the stop bar tailpiece. I don't think that tension could create such chipping, although I could easily be wrong. If it was a problem with humidity or something like that, it would have affected other areas on the guitar body as well (again I can't be 100% sure). But it could also just be some excess wood from when the drilled the holes. Hope everything works out fine! One love
mjeffbr
so, nothing else happened? do u still own that guitar?
dickey
It's just residual wood from the drilling of the holes. Have owned about 50 Gibsons, many of them had that appearance, and never once did I have a stop screw pull out on me! You can also see the same wood shavings at the bridgeposts sometimes. mjeffbr
wow, 50 gibsons? that's a life full of achievements hehe, this is my first and had to pay through the nose to get it, considering the taxes we pay in brazil, about 2500 USD so you can imagine how desperate I am, thank you so much for the info, it would be too much to have both my gibson and my jcm break the same month! iSoto
so' date=' nothing else happened? do u still own that guitar?[/quote'] Yes, I still own the guitar (I would never give up this puppy) and I had no further chipping on the finish. Only thing is that I can see the washer thingy, but I don't really care since I'll install a Kahler 7200 in about a couple of months. Since dickey confirmed what I said about it being residual/excess/whatever wood from the drilling, you have nothing to worry about!
