Yes, that's correct for the Les Paul Standard although I understand that some were coloured as "Darkburst's"  whereby they used a darker colour than the red to hide any defects in the Maple tops.

Some did leave the factory Black as special orders but apparently they just sprayed Black paint over the sunburst!

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes I was focusing on the Standards. I know there were the Customs “Black” Beauties. But wait, they just sprayed Black over a Burst? Holy….
