Hthomas
is there any differences in having your pickups covered or uncovered in a LP? if so what are they?
rocketman
It gives more of an open sound with a bit more punch to it. I've played both and it is noticeable but barely IMHO...
rockstar232007
Taking the covers off allows for less "stray capacitance", which allows for more high frequencies/clearer tones to be produced.

rockstar232007
There is no difference according to some guy names SethWrong question. Seth Lover said that there isn't a difference with the p/ups being upside-down (pole-piece screws facing different directions). He never commented on whether or not the covers had anything to do with tone (which they do). The covers act as a tone filter by trapping "stray capacitance" between itself and the coil, which in turn cancels the high frequencies causing the pickup to have a slightly muddy sound. When I took the cover off the bridge p/u of my LP, it was like having a totally different guitar. It was WAY more clearer/defined.
Hthomas
Thanks for the info. I got some motor city 2nd degree black belts without covers. Im putting 500k pots in my studio and I need to intonate it. Can't wait to here how it sounds!
