colin23
i've got an SG special the volume pot stopped working, so I changed all 4 pots for CTS as the tone really only rolled off at about 2/3, I thought the CTS pots would have given me tone tonal differance straight away but it's still the same! what should I do to make the tone roll off darker, sooner??? 80LPC
An easy way is to change the tone pot capacitors for a slightly higher value. Experiment with different values and types - some people claim to hear improvements with expensive caps, but I've had good results with low cost polyester ones. The cheap ceramic discs usually have a wide tolerance of +/- 20 % whereas the polyester will be a tighter tolerance of 5%. Ceramics fitted to vintage guitars should be retained - experiment with different values and types, but keep them safe in the case.
