Gilgamesh is perhaps a perfect example of a prototypical urban-rural split, especially read as allegory. And that's pretty much considered the oldest "story" written by man. Hmmmmm. It's rather easier, though, I think for a rural person to assume the veneer of the urban than the reverse. Too, as with Gilgamesh himself, I think there's an appeal to the rural that is retained even as the urban attempts to destroy it to fit its own paradigm of behavior.
