My personal best from The Free!

Koss was the reason I wanted to play guitar.

In the early '70s I saw footage of Free playing 'The Hunter' at some festival and I was electrified!

He and Peter Green are still my all-time favourites. In fact I listened to the whole of 'The Free Story' this lunchtime, as it happens.

Someone on the forum described the moment in 'Mr. Big' where the 'lead' passes from 6-string to bass as a defining moment in Rock music.

Paul Kossoff's got some wicked vibrato doesnt he !!!

Apparently he was asked for some advice on his vibrato technique by a certain Mr. E. Clapton! Koss had developed a way of using two or sometimes three fingers to get the right amount of pressure needed.

Paul's got indeed a unique vibrato (you can hear the fretboard crying [biggrin] ) but what strucks me the most is that the guy was hardly 19 when he wrote that piece and when he performed with the Free at the Isle of Wight festival...
