artmaker
I haven't seen one of these posted yet. Anyone else enjoy playing theirs as much as I enjoy playing mine? She's a '68.
L5Larry
So just what exactly makes a 340 not a 335?
lpdeluxe
The wiring is completely different. Rather than the usual vol/tone - vol/tone - pickup selector, the 340 has individual volumes, a master tone, a pickup blend, and a switch wired to incorporate an off position. A friend has one with a stop tail piece. Incidentally, everything I read says that the "natural" finish was rare -- but every one I've seen, in person or picture, has been blonde. artmaker
Right you are lpdeluxe. The wiring scheme took some time to get used to but it makes some interesting tone variations. The laminated neck took getting used to also...........its like a baseball bat but the guitar plays great. All I have ever seen is natural finish as well. Jon S.
That's a beautiful guitar! +1! I played one of these a few years back(nowhere near as good of shape as yours), and have wanted one ever since!!!
lpdeluxe
My friend's has a bird's-eye maple body. It has aged to a beautiful amber. Makes me want to stain my blonde 335!
Figaro
lpdeluxe, Do you know if the stop tailpiece came on your friends ES-340 from the factory? I think they only came with a trapese tailpiece.
lpdeluxe
There are no indications it's not original. I'll bet the guy who bought it new (I know him, too, and had a chance to buy it from him for $500 back around '81 -- yeah, I still kick myself for that!) ordered it that way. He was not averse to spending bucks on what he wanted.
bluriff
I got my 340 about 10 years ago, and am never letting it go. There's just something about the sound I can't replicate with anything else. Blonde and beautiful, it's my favorite. :)
