Guth
I recently saw mention of a recently released Reverend Gary Davis album (or CD that is) that was made from recordings that Stefan Grossman had captured during time they had spent together. This makes up two discs of the three. The third was a recording of the Reverend at his church. Apparently a number of the songs captured were never before available on any recordgins. Has anyone here heard this yet? I'd be interested to find out more. Thanks! Guth

Rambler
Stefan's been busy--this, too (Live at Gerdes FolK City) http://guitarvideos.com/revdavis/SGGW114.htm Anyone out there new to Reverend Davis looking for a sampler might try one of these: Harlem Street Singer. All gospel, all great. http://www.amazon.com/Harlem-Street-Singer-Rev-Davis/dp/B000000XYN/ref=pd_sim_m_ Guitar and Banjo of. His classic rags,http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Banjo-Reverend-Gary-Davis/dp/B00005N815/ref=pd_sim_m_2 Pure Religion & Bad Company. rar
While all of the above are great choices, if you can only have only one RGD CD -- in which case, you have my sympathy! -- I'd recommend the Very Best of RGD volume in Shout! Factory's "Heroes of the Blues" series, a sampling of his best recordings from the '30's and to the '60's. -- Bob R

Factory's "Heroes of the Blues" series' date=' a sampling of his best recordings from the '30's and to the '60's.-- Bob R [/quote'] Not bad for one-stop shopping, Bob. Covers blues and gospel, although the rags are MIA. For just one, my pick might be 'Pure Religion and Bad Co--it has key numbers from the Shout set + Hesitation Blues, some rags and a powerful pass through "Pure Religion' (that last song is one that jumped right off the needle for me. Had to learn those runs). Oth, the Shout set has Samson, which is one of RGD's 'warrior' pieces and How Happy I Am. Nope, can't have just one. rar
Nope' date=' can't have just one.[/quote'] This is kind of like "If you could only have one guitar, ..." problems. There is no good answer! -- Bob R
