As I'm sure you may be aware by now,I've put the vintage '59s in 2 of my epi's so I guess you could say I'm pretty impressed.

Even with the tone control all the way off the neck pickups sound good.

I haven't tried the Fat Pats yet ,so I can't chime in on those , I may in the future.

I put 59s in mine and I love 'em. The clarity is very good on the neck pickup' date=' not too muddy. The bridge pickup is great too, not to bright, almost a little Stat like, a nice chime. I find myself using the bridge pickup for clean rhythm and the neck pickup more for lead with my TS9. I do set it in the middle a lot too.

I have to say that I have been a little tempted to get another Dot and put in a set of Mean 90s. I think Biff ordered some, but I don't know if he got them in yet. Maybe he'll chime in on how he likes that set up.

Congrats again, and enjoy!!

I really didn't even think about getting a 335 until I saw Alvin Lee rockin' out on one.

EDIT

I did try the Dream 180s in my G-400. I wasn't impressed. They were just to blah for me, so I swapped them out for a Burstbucker Pro in the neck and Burstbucker II in the bridge. Now those are some awesome pickups.[/quote']

Didn't Gary put mean 90's in his Dot? He just posted a picture of it somewhere recently... That would be a fun idea, if I didn't have a Casino already.. From what I gather about the Dream 180's, they're supposed to be kinda Gretschy... Like Filtertrons... Unless I'm mistaken. Burstbuckers sound like a better match for an SG... (G400)

I have Seymour Duncan Phatcats in my Dot Studio. They're very nice, probably a little more mellow than the GFS Mean 90, though still has some P-90 twang. That could be the guitars I've got them in, too. The Mean 90 is in a G-400, so it might have a bit more bite just from the body. Both lovely pickups. Can't go far wrong with either one.

Thanks everybody... Now it's on to the mods!

I was wondering if I could get some opinions from you guys in regards to pickups... I was initially going to go with the GFS Vintage '59s as a matter of course' date=' but now I've been thinking about the Fat Pats as well... Has anybody tried both?

I'm looking to get as close as possible to a 335 sound , so I reckon the '59s are the way to go, but there's something alluring about the higher output of the Fat Pats.... I know 'hot' isn't everything and most of his pickups are over-wound.. I just wanted to hear some opinions... (I know we all have a hard time expressing them, but try your best! O:) ) Also; how's the clarity of the neck pickups (both types)?

The Dream 180s look interesting too, but that's a horse of an altogether different color!

Hey Lerxt-

How about considering what's actually on the 335's? The gibson '57 HB's.

The only thing that is cleaner and hotter than my 335 in output are the burstbuckers on my gibson lp standard...

Just offering another alternative!

Jay
