fc4cdf
I have a Zephyr Regent, same guitar but with neck pup only. I was looking for a warm jazz tone so I didn't mind not having the bridge pup. I use heavy gauge flatwounds on it which makes it a little harder to play. The stock pup will be replaced soon with a Tom Short Humbucker. 41 Epiphone Ritz, Sheraton, Wildkat, ZBD, ZR, Popa Chubby Flying V w/P90's, !974 Gibson LP Special '55' RI, Gibson LPMM w/P90, plus others
carverman
I haven't tried the Epi version of the ES-175, (yet), but I absolutely love the Gibson version of the ES-175..and played 3 of them last year at the Gibson factory in Memphis and the Showcase in Nashville. I pondered on the steep asking price after playing a couple and decided to think it over, and walked out with tears in my eyes instead of happy smiles. I since have acquired a couple of Emperor IIs to fill the gap, and they are not too bad approximations especially with GFS vintage 59s and t-o-m bridge. As far as I'm concerned, the ES-175 tone is very unique, especially if you are after mellow jazz sounds. A lot of jazz masters play ES-175s on their recordings. I don't use the bridge p_up by itself, only in blended mode with the tone rolled off, toggle in the middle toggle position, so the bridge pickup gets very limited use. The type of bridge will also have an effect on the tone, (t-o-m or ebony) along with the choice of strings.
