pissedoffepiphoneowner
HA! epiphone, quality? pfffft you know, I've always liked a good epi, i have a nice group of them... a lil work, hod rod them a lil and they are sweet guitars.... so, last month, i buy a lil casino reissue thing, like 700 bucks after tax... canadian well, it came with a dicey switch... so i decided to go through the work of snaking the electricals out and doing a bit of, taking out the trash... i didn't even get to the snaking bit, i dismount the neck pickup, giving me clear view of the neck pocket and joint... if thats what you call it... i see this nice neck block (in fact the whole neck has a nice fluid grain, i mean, thats why i bought it...) of mahogany. theres this excuse of a square neck pocket, the block - cut not once, but rotated and cut again - it looks like the realized they started off at the wrong angle... then tried to normal the orientation, but rotating it too much in the other direction! so yeah, now theres this neck block sitting sideways sorta with one edge jutting out into the soundbox... into this block, there is a pocket. looks like juniors first day, and he went and squared up the neck joint for the pocket to receive... wicked sweet job, its got rounded parts, and on the bass side, a nice lil shim to try and correct for all that roll and over cut.... or under cut on the neck - i was kinda too disgusted to measure or figure it out... thing is, its shimmed up nice, the guitar feels a+ - thats why i bought it... it looks like it was a big mistake fixed up by somebody who knew how to fix the boo boo... I'll get pictures soon enough if anyone cares or has an amazing story like mine....
smokestack
The woodwork in Epi neck joints does vary [true of Les Pauls too] and might be one factor in the somewhat varibale performance of some models. That said, the itegrity of the joint can't always be judged by what it looks like. It is always disappointing though to find shoddy or careless workmanship under a nicely presented exterior. charlie brown
No, No, No....take it back! Don't put up with shoddy workmanship, no matter the price point, or "feel!" There will be a lot of others, that will "feel" as well, and not suffer, from "patched up," workmanship! Don't spend your hard earned money, on someone else's mistake! No Way! Take it back, and demand an suitable replacement...even if you have to take the pickups off, to check it out! Sorry, this is a very "sore" spot, for me...accepting shoddy workmanship or products, when they cost just the same, as ones that are made correctly! Please, don't accept that, no matter the "price point!" Just my 2-cent's worth. Charlie B.

pissedoffepiphoneowner
nah, i like the guitar too much.... i mean, even the rosewoods grain is completely beautiful (thats why i bought it) I'm just sore that these days they hafta slather on the laquer... what I'd rather opt to do is lift the top and replace the neck block... shave down the neck joint(on th eneck) and build it back correct.... that way i can have a bit of fun with the neck angle and truly make it custom the way i like.... thank god epi uses hide glue.... or i'd be there all year trying to melt it apart... HA! it comes with a soulpost like a fiddle.... yet they glued it in.... somebody shoulda told them that kinda ruins the purpose if you glue it in... at least the post grain runs with the top grain - they got that right...
