Hotplate attenuator ... single impedance?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at this signal attenuator and wondering why there isn't a dial to control the input/output impedance...

Wouldn't it be a coil on input and a coil on output? I guess to implement that it'd be a whole OT, which I guess might mean tone quality loss if you're not using a really good OT; and flip it backwards on the input? (what? Use the output 4/8/16k leads as the input, and use the input 5k on a 125ESE as the output into the hotplate circuit?) Such would be quite expensive...

Doable though? I've got an amp with 4k impedance speaker right now (4ohm == 4kohm, right? Seriously they're marked 3 orders of magnitude different on the wiring diagrams!), but I want the below which has 16k and don't want to buy 2 hotplates. Do such implemented with impedance settings exist?

Yea there are attenuators with single impedance, I am not technical and do not have an answer for your question but if you are looking at that THD to go with a EVJ stack better look at this one made by them for Gibson and on sale, for less than half the price and it looks quite similar.

Although the picture says 8ohms the description says 16ohms...

Probably won't still be on sale when I buy it.... :- But yeah, it's a THD with Gibson's name on it.

Honestly I couldn't stand the ugly brown for very long :x The VJs have nice brown-black or black-red contrast, but that thing is just ugly. I'd hide it inside the speaker cab :(
