difference very subtle?

I was told that there isn't a huge difference between the 498t and the classic 57's and probably not worth switching.

Are they fairly similiar' date='just the 498t little hotter?[/quote']

Whomever told you that is one or all of the following:

A. tone deaf

B. Stupid

C. Just an idiot

It's ALOT hotter! the 498 has a DC resistance of around 14.5K and alnico 5 mag. Not sure the resistance of the 57, but I'd guess around 8-9 K with alnico 2 magnet

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

The only guitar that I liked the 498 in was my ES333, sounded great in that. I've hated it in every other guitar I've tried it in. It's just too hot/mushy for my tastes, doesn't' clean up well IMO.

Lately, I've gone back to using lower output pickups (such as the 57 and BB type) and let the pedal, or the amp do the work,
