smontanaro
We're getting ready to move and are going through a bunch of stuff my son left behind. One thing is an Epiphone Galaxie amp, of decidedly non-modern vintage. It has a reverb/tremolo button box. I can't see any specific model number on it. Can you help me identify it - when it was made, model number, etc? Thanks, Skip Montanaro
layboomo
Looks like a EPIPHONE GALAXIE EA-33 RVT (c.1965) to me. I'd guess it's worth about $375 ish if it works well.
m-theory
Looks like a close relative of my '64 Falcon. I wouldn't play it without having it fully serviced, personally. The Falcon was a bit different, in that it has 6v6 output tubes, a tube rectifier, and a 12" speaker, but they're probably fairly similar otherwise. I believe the actual Gibson equivalent is the GA 17-RVT Scout, which is reported to clock at about 17 watts. If it follows the same design pattern as my Falcon, it's probably got pretty anemic gain. Gibson did some fairly goofy things now and then, and shunting off a large amount of signal in my Falcon was one of them. However, for jazz and blues, it's a formidable contender. You should be able to find a schematic here.
