Goldie
IIRC, the P90's I took off my gold top were potted.
bluesman345
My P90's are potted as well. FWIW, I read something from a boutique pup maker in a forum somewhere...he said that the original P90's were not potted, so that's how he makes his. However, I guess they started potting them to try to eliminate feedback. With all due respect to Seth Lover, it's too bad that Gibson replaced P90's with HB's in '57, only retaining P90's on their entry-level axes. Fubar
I've mainly played MIA strats and teles since day one, before I decided to try the Casino with its P90......the big grab for me with the Casino was first of all it was nice light axe, the neck plays and feels like a 7.25 D shape tele neck, like the CIJ 72 thinline I should never have sold!!!even with its WRHB pickups it could growl with the best of them and clean up like a crystal bell........ For the look style and sound I love the Casino, but she's going to be tricked out with a new wiring harness, tuners and pickups for the price point the pickups aren't bad........but if you've ever playedthe 90 pups on a Gibson, then you will surely notice the difference......much more string definition, lighter airier single coil tone (whatever airier is) not as muddy......just a lot more tonal definition...... My biggest hangup with the Casino as it is now, is the feedback playing thru a tube and and outboard tube reverb can be a real challenge.......and thats playing clean!!!........playing into the brown tones can be real challenging, and it was made to play the blues great jazz tones as well........ TWANG
KA are potted for sure.. there's even a little wax in the pole piece screw heads. I'm only using a five watt epi vj.. modded.. but I'm controlling the feedback very nicely with my KA p90s. Lately, I've been tempted to even add another to the lp .. got one in the neck position..
