Telechamp
A friend of mine just bought a '65 Epi acoustic at a yard sale for $200! It seems to be a fine acoustic - possibly needing a little tweaking maybe - but I think he got a steal. It says it was made in Kalamazoo, MI. Anybody out there that can provide any more info? I'll try to post some pics - I am a newbie at posting pics, so I'll give it a try here... http://www.tinypic.ws/files/tamlxnduigxn97w2wka8.jpg http://www.tinypic.ws/files/dg8mrz0nm3czicvgz6v1.jpg
L1Picker
That looks like a 70's Japanese model to me. And if so, $200 is not a bargain.

Re: the Epiphone acoustic - I would never have known this model was so cheap.. My bud thinks he got a steal, so I guess I'm gonna have to break it to him gently - he was all fired up about this "find".... BTW, what makes this model less than stellar? Telechamp
Sorry 6-string - Got you mixed up with Charlie I guess... Was just curious why this particular Japanese 70's models were considered not too good?... Epi-Man
L1Picker
I could be wrong, I'm no expert, it just looks like a 70's style to me based on the headstock shape, the logo, the 3 hole truss rod cover, and the zero fret feature. My comment about $200 not being a bargain would cover any of the Japanese Epi's from the 70's, not just that model. Not to say that their aren't some gems out there somewhere, but the Norlin era wasn't the best of times for Gibson or Epiphone. I wouldn't break anything to your buddy yet...wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to make a more accurate call.

It seems to play pretty decent, so I'll just let him have his fun for awhile.. Epi-Man

Because they have laminated plywood bodies with crap neck joints that fail more often than not and multi-piece mystery wood necks, cheap, unreliable machine heads and crappy adjustable bridges that do kill any hope of tone these may have had to start with. There are people who think these have tone...I own one and I don't think they do... They go sometimes as high as $250 on E Bay but no one in their right mind would pay that unless they thought they were getting some vintage collectible...they ain't. Good luck.
