JohnMcClane5000
how can you tell a fake epiphone dot' date=' i have a riviera and its mint from 1998, i got an epi dot 2008 and it dont look as good, the f holes seem wider and the epi logo looks like a kid scrawled it, but nicely inlaid, and the serial number is only on the sticker inside the f hole not on the headstock.anyone?[/quote'] I've looked at the pictures, your dot appears to be original. The thing about the f-holes (especially with the ones of the dot model) is that they have wider f-holes (which sort of look like the mouth of Steven Tyler when he opens it...) which is typical for the dot model. I have one too and in comparison to the f-holes of my Epi Casino they are huge! I really can't understand why epiphone would do that to their guitars... I think if they'd make the f-holes as beautiful as on the Gibson guitars, people wouldn't buy Gibson anymore. I think they did that on purpose because they don't want people to have guitars as beautifully made as gibson guitars, that's maybe also the reason why regular Epis don't have that beautiful-looking open book headstock. nick
Matt the Cat
Gibson also put strings on their guitars. Makes 'em sound better! Ha ha..... Sorry, I'll go now, not really helping am I......
LHC- Jr.
This thread just keeps getting better and better. First it's: "The guitar is a fake, because the colour is wrong." Then it's: "There were Chinese characters on the box." And now supposedly it's impossible to post pictures, because the box is "wrapped up like a mummy". Are you sure those symbols weren't hieroglyphs?
TommyK
To post pics, highlight each link address, one at a time, then click the 'image' icon at the top of the text edit box. It looks like a mountain with a sun / moon above it. It brackets the address with {IMG}. QED.
bigtufguy
You have to host the images somewhere else. The mountain icon only lets you add a link to pictures you have uploaded somewhere else. There are places that will let you do this for free. Even your internet service provider should offer some free space you could upload to. Just an FYI. Good Luck BTW
zombywoof
Why would anybody take the trouble to counterfeit an Epi - there ain't no money in it.
sangemon1281734057
Why would anybody take the trouble to counterfeit an Epi - there ain't no money in it. That's what I've been wondering.
TommyK
Why would anybody take the trouble to counterfeit an Epi - there ain't no money in it. Sure there is. If you can make a guitar for $150.00 and can sell it for $300.00-$800.00. Definitely a positive cash flow. Not as much as a $3000.00 Gibson, but Gibson purchasers are more savvy lookin' for fakes as they're parting with more money. I also suspect the demographic of the average Epi purchaser is much younger and therefore more naive.
