Replacing Casino Pickup Covers

Hello everyone. Got some black plastic p-90 pickup covers and went to take the chrome ones off and they are soldered to the pickups pretty good. My question is does anyone know if I seperate the pickups from the chrome covers will i be able to just put on the black plastic ones with no problems? If not does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the black pickup covers on there or would it require getting a set of replacement pickups all together?

I have pretty much the same question. The GFS pickups I received came with chrome "1/2 covers". I'm trying to keep my Dot Studio as stock looking as I can. I see that the covers are actually soldered to the bottom of the pickup and there is also what looks like a ground wire soldered in there as well. I think the cover should be easy enough to remove, but it looks like I'll have to run some additional wire from the pickup ground to the back of one of the pots or something.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Running a ground wire back to one of the pots sounds like it might work. I'd really like to be able to just put the black covers on and run a ground if i have to but if that won't work does anyone know of a replacement casino pickup that is specific to the casino (angle and shape) instead of just the standard p90?

If you un-solder and remove the chrome covers, and replace them with plastic, doesn't the ground become unnecessary? I imagine the cover is grounded because your hand will hit it a lot. But the pickup only needs the two leads to work.

As for replacing chrome with chrome, just solder the new one the same way the old one was soldered, I would think. P-90's aren't very complicated pickups. Non-dog ear soapbars just fall right out of the cover when you remove them.

Besides grounding, one of the reason for soldering the covers is so it doesn't vibrate and start howling. You don't have to worry about grounding plastic covers, besides it's pretty difficult to solder plastic. It tends to melt.

cinealma, as far as the wire goes, just leave it attached to the base of the pickup. Why would you detach it??? And are you talking about P-90s, or the humbucker sized replacements??? P-90s won't fit your Dot Studio without alterations. And I wouldn't suggest removing the covers from Dream 90s or Mean 90s. If it's that important, get the black Mean 90s like this:
