brianh
"Asking $5' date='500" LOL! you crack me up brianh[/quote'] '09 Blue book says $3,200 for the '41-49 De Luxe in 98% mint, and $2,500 for the '50-54. I'm guessing it's the latter. take a couple hundred off for the loose binding and it's a deal. I'll give him $500 up front and $200 for the remaining months. Sound better? It's anybody's guess what vintage Epi's really go for in this market.
clarkuss
Doesn't that serial number indicate 1943?
brianh
Doesn't that serial number indicate 1943? Dunno, didn't look it up. I guess that makes it a better investment, but still outta my league.
clarkuss
I don't think it's a good investment. It's a great piece of history for anyone with the money or a fancy toy for the rich. There are 1000 guitars I'd buy before this if I was trying to make an investment. You can buy some very nice Pre-60s Gibsons at a fraction of the price not to mention great Japanese made Epis, Gibsons and Gretsches. Vintage Rickenbackers are still pretty cheap but their prices will only rocket as well. It's not as if he's selling it at an investment thinking price. The market would probably reflect selling this at half his price and so you'd probably have to wait another 10 years before it would even sell for what he's asking. brianh
Agreed, but somehow he got that figure from somewhere. Perhaps an uniformed local shop, or he's just starting high. The problem with guys like this is that if you offer them what it's worth they get all insulted and storm off. Then, a few weeks later when they still have the thing and no reasonable offers they're too PO'd to talk to you. Ah well, back to the savings plan for the Elitisit Casino. clarkuss
haha agreed. and also about the savings plan for the elitist casino. that's where i'm going now. It's prices like this that make it hard for anyone to get a guitar at a decent price. but then saying that, people want guitars for peanuts now and even some really good value guitars aren't selling because everybody wants to pay 75% of what they were willing to pay a year or to ago even though the value of the guitars is probably 125% of what they were considering waiting times/production numbers etc Rickenbacker is a prime example...
