The_Buffalo
Depends on a lot - where you store them, how you store them, your body chemistry (sweat, skin oils, etc.) and how new they were when you last played. Simple answer - strings will deteriorate over time, no matter what. (How much time & how much deterioration, that's another thing).
bonzoboy
I have 24 guitars and I find that strings last longer if you rotate your guitars on a regular basis and take out 2 or 3 at a time and play them over a period of a few days, wipe them down well with a dry cloth after each use and return them to their cases. There's nothing worse for a string or a guitar for that matter, than sitting in a case for a prolonged period, guitars are made to be played not stored. We are just custodians of our guitars for with proper care they'll have many owners during their lifetime and it's our duty to take the utmost care of them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
