Beatles1909
I was wondering, why is the SG g-400 not called SG Standard? since it is a1962 reproduction.
gl297
I used to think it had to do with the binding on the neck, almost all Gibson Standards have it except for a couple years...so I guess I really don't know. :/
sheraton03
Actually, IF the G-400 is supposed to be a replica of a 1962 Gibson, it should be called a Les Paul. The body style now called SG was introduced sometime in 1960-1961 as the "new" Les Paul. Both 2 pickup and 3 pickup (Custom) models were introduced. There was no SG until sometime in 1963 when Gibson renamed the Les Paul after Les told them to take his name of the new style guitar. I once owned a 1961 Les Paul (Standard) and sure wish I still had it ! I've since gotten an Epiphone G-400 with Maestro and will be adding some modifications to make it more resemble a 1963 SG. I'll put in another topic about that soon as I need info from others that may have done similar modifications.
