Pauldwinston
I've started playing tenor guitar and was given a tuning of CGCC that was refered to as cross over tuning. Anyone out there have a clue why it is called that. Thanks Paul
Hungrycat
Standard tuning for tenor guitars is ADGC, low to high? Right?
wiggy
Anything to do with Marine Band Crossover harps?
zombywoof
I just spent the weekend goofing around with an 1965 Harmony tenor guitar I am thinking of buying. I don't know for sure but I would guess the crossover thing has something to do with the fact that the tuning you are using is like an Open C but with a drone string added. Maybe the same thing as when folks call open minor tunings cross note tunings. I know a 5 string banjo guy who sometimes tunes to GCGCC for a certain song or two so I guess a triple C tuning would work for certain tunes on a tenor guitar. Tenor guitars are generally tuned the same as tenor banjos to CGDA. You can also tune them to GDBE which is an octave lower than a mandolin (like a viola) and because they have a scale similar to a standard guitar to DGBE which I have heard called Chicago tuning. The Crossover in the harp name just refers to how it is made and not to anything the harp can do that is different from the old standard Marine Band.
