lourssale
Someone passed along his 1998 Les Paul Special II to me. Interestingly, he had installed Burstbucker Pro pickups in it, which I would like to take out and install in another guitar. My question is: what type of pickups would have been originally installed in this LP Special? And are there inexpensive, but decent, pickups that I could use to replace the Burstbuckers? Thanks, Lourssale
Whitmore Willy
Lourssale. Welcome to the forum. I don't know about "98" but the one I bought for my grandson had 700T and 650R pickups. Neither of us liked them much...OK ...but not much more. I replaced them for him with GFS mean 90's. About $35 each. Big improvement. As far as something that would sound like a Burstbucker I'm sure others will be more help.

Thanks, Lourssale[/quote'] Whitmore Willy is right - 650R/700T Creamic Magnet pups are what were originally in it. Read 'bout 'em Here: From EPI LOUNGE "DIY" Sticky, "Guitar Pickup Info": "Epiphone Pickups Specification/Description List" http://epi.p3net.net/wiki/index.php/Epiphone_Pickups Regarding INEXPENSIVE, but GOOD QUALITY pups, I head straight to http://store.guitarfetish.com/index.html Here's the link straight to the HUMBUCKER page: http://store.guitarfetish.com/humbuckers.html Their homepage says they ship WORLDWIDE daily. I've used 4 sets of the "Alnico Fat Pat" Humbuckers with both Gold and Chrome covers, and 1 set of the "VEH - Vintage Extra Hot"/Gold covers. Personally, I LIKE GFS pickups! Good tone, easy on the wallet. But as pickups are a PERSONAL choice, there will be many. many opinions. Listen to what the others may tell you, then check all out and make an informed decision!!!!!! lourssale
Thank you for the helpful info. Will any humbucker-size pickup work for the Special II? And how can I determine if they are compatible? Thanks again! Lourssale
