Switching Pickups

Someone passed along his 1998 Les Paul Special II to me. Interestingly, he had installed Burstbucker Pro pickups in it, which I would like to take out and install in another guitar. My question is: what type of pickups would have been originally installed in this LP Special? And are there inexpensive, but decent, pickups that I could use to replace the Burstbuckers?

Thanks,

Lourssale

Lourssale.

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know about "98" but the one I bought for my grandson had 700T and 650R pickups.

Neither of us liked them much...OK ...but not much more.

I replaced them for him with GFS mean 90's. About $35 each. Big improvement.

As far as something that would sound like a Burstbucker I'm sure others will be more help.

Whitmore Willy is right - 650R/700T Creamic Magnet pups are what

were originally in it. Read 'bout 'em Here:

From EPI LOUNGE "DIY" Sticky, "Guitar Pickup Info":

"Epiphone Pickups Specification/Description List"

http://epi.p3net.net/wiki/index.php/Epiphone_Pickups

Regarding INEXPENSIVE, but GOOD QUALITY pups, I head straight to

http://store.guitarfetish.com/index.html

Here's the link straight to the HUMBUCKER page:

http://store.guitarfetish.com/humbuckers.html

Their homepage says they ship WORLDWIDE daily. I've used 4 sets

of the "Alnico Fat Pat" Humbuckers with both Gold and Chrome covers,

and 1 set of the "VEH - Vintage Extra Hot"/Gold covers.

Personally, I LIKE GFS pickups! Good tone, easy on the wallet.

But as pickups are a PERSONAL choice, there will be many. many

opinions. Listen to what the others may tell you, then check all out and

make an informed decision!!!!!!
