Dead Valve Standard.......yeah!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I have a Epiphone Valve Standard given to me (don't get much cheaper than that) that is essentially a cabinet with the chassis and an Emminance speaker in it. I would like to do a build with either the chassis that is there or maybe a new chassis that will fit this cabinet. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! I did notice that cgil had posted on many ocassions that a complete new build is the best thing that can happen to this amp, and, I am ready to do so. I just need some help with finding the components that would be best for a build like this. Thanks again in advance!

Why not fix what is wrong with the present one you have? These are simple tube amps and should

be easy to troubleshoot. Why go to the expense of building up another chassis and going through

all the troubleshooting issues..just look at what TWANG had to go through with his efforts!

You can spare yourself a lot of expense and time and frustration by simply repairing the Valve

Standard. Just download a schemo for it and take it to somebody that has some experience

with tube amps.

As long as the power and output transformers aren't cooked, usually the repairs

are replacing bad tubes, capacitors or even the odd resistor.

The problem with fixing this amp is there is nothing to fix unless complete replacement of all the components in the chassis would be considered fixing it. All I have is the cabinet, chassis, and an Emminance speaker. But....if you know where I can get the rest of the original parts at a decent price....I would probably consider repairing it myself with new parts. I do admit I haven't checked with Epiphone to see if parts are available only because this amp has been discontinued. Again..........ALL suggestions are welcome!

Well, you have a blank canvas so to speak. Build the best amp you can. Take a look at:

1. http://www.ceriatone.com/index.htm

2. http://store.triodestore.com/

3. http://www.tedweber.com/

4. http://www.turretboards.com/

just to name a few. I would see how much amp you can reasonably fit in your chassis and go with that. When you are done, you will have an amp that would have cost hundreds, and possibly a few thousand dollars had you bought it from a reputable builder.

Good Luck

p.s. let us know what you decide....
