nightswan
hi everyone, i'm a newbie and I got a question I can find an answer to anywhere. Is the TransTrem adapted for the GS better (i.e. with a more stable tuning, easier to est etc.) than the conventional TransTrem desigend for headless guitars? steinbergerworld.com only refers that some GS owners claim the GS trem transposes the best. I don't really have a clue, having never played a GS, so I wonder if anyone can help me. thanks
Eagle
Yes this is true as calibrated strings are not required and the poor tolerances in string manufacture are not an issue with this variation.
nightswan
Yes this is true as calibrated strings are not required this should be a problem actually, since calibrated strings should be designed with the Trans Trem length in mind. I still have a problem with this issue..=)
Eagle
The distance between the nut and the tuner never changes as the pitch changes ,the extra string is void. On the GM /GL the string stays in the equation.
nightswan
so let me see if I understand correctly: the GS trem is better just because it works with any kind of string, as opposed to calibrated strings for the regular Trans Trem? Or does it transpose more accurately? And if so, why?
Eagle
It is easier to set up because there vagaries of inaccurately calibrated strings are no longer part of the set up. Poor string are the main problem and remember the trem was designed for 9s. With a set of 9s I can get a GS spot on with 9s in all five positions. nightswan
ok, so you would recommend getting a GS for the best transposing playing? thanks again
Eagle
ZT3's TT3 will perform very well in the transposing department because the range is half that of the TT2 making all the string inconstancies less of an issue not to mention calibration is easier as well. Eagle
GS is very rare and so expensive.
