Ken
Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to trade for a wine red 94' les paul studio, but some things about it haven't smelled right from the get go and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it. First off the tuners, stopbar and tailpeice are all black, which the guy said were swapped in in place of the stock gold hardware... Ok, I can buy that. The main issue is the serial number, 92485507. When I looked this up it came back as a 1995 studio, which in itself is no big deal, but the guy insists its a Limited Run "See through finish" 1994. I couldn't find anything on a limited run of studios in 1994, only the centennial Les Pauls. The pics are too big to upload, but to me it looks line any 'ole Wine Red Studio. Obviously, my main concern is that it's one of the Chinese fakes. Is this guy full of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
yoda
Post pictures of it, so we can look at it. get headstock shots, front and back, close up bridge and body shots. Upload them to Photobucket, then link them here. P.S. most fakes are either standards or customs, not studios.
starfoxhound
Perhaps some pics might help us to help you. There were some "special" issues on LP Studios during mid-90's. I've had the Les Paul Studios Lite: 1. 1992 LP Studio Lite MIII, Trans blue finish, black hardware, HSH pickups config, 3 way switch similar to Strat switches and coil tap option; 2. 1996 LP Studio Lite, cherry sunburst, gold hardware, 2 humbuckers, Both have ebony fretboard and small tuners. Upload some pics so we can see, I attached the pics of my both guitars.

That's true, most fakes are STD or Customs, there are Epi fakes too by the way, Signature series and special runs.

That doesn't look like enough letters to say model, which is what is normally is put there as far as I remember.
Ken
Epi fakes as in taking an Epi and putting some Gibson logos or hardware on it, or actual fakes OF Epi's?

And as far as I know, usually the word written next to Les Paul on the Headstock would be Model. Might be that just some letters have completely faded. I don't know much about serial number's, but I'm sure a Gibson expert here can help you out.
