Djangorocks
Hi guys, new here :-) I bought a 90's black ES-175 with gold hardware in very good shape. Noticed a few things, tuners are golden Grovers original (most 175's have the Gibson Deluxe tuners? ) There is no white or orange decal inside. Sides and back are mahogany. (most is maple normally, isn't it? ) I would like to know what pickups are in there as well. Anybody? Grtz Richard Pool Netherlands
Bob R
Pictures? How close is the neck pickup to the neck? 1/4" or 1"?

AlanC
Hi Djangorocks, Just guessing but I think that the pick ups are probably '57 Classics!!
Djangorocks
Were these 57 classics available in 1990? The neckpickup is 1" from the neck, btw. Why?
Bob R
Were these 57 classics available in 1990? The neckpickup is 1" from the neck, btw. Why? Just making sure that it's not a L-4 CES in black and we're on the same page. The L-4 neck pickup is closer to the neck. The 175 and L-4 are very similar guitars in outward appearance. The L-4 also has gold hardware but the tailpiece is different. Without a label it would be easy to mistake one for the other at first quick glance. Still like to see pics. I like good looking guitars.
Djangorocks
I just read on the Gibsonsite (SG) that the 57Classics were introduced in 92. So, that makes my pu's Shaws? Pics to follow, maybe tonight :-)
AlanC
As Bob R points out the pickup on an L4 CES is closer to the neck when compared to an ES 175 as per photo below.

Bob R
Nice guits. The 175 is quite a catch. I almost bought a zephyr blues years ago. Bought an emperor regent in natural instead. May still buy the zephyr if I can find one. Very ES5 switchmaster(ish). Use a dental mirror in one hole and a strong light in the other to see what's written on the backs of the pickups. This may be more definitive than historical info from a website. Especially as it pertains to your particular example.
Djangorocks
Thnx for the info guys. The dental mirror is a good tip! Previous owner just mailed me a few pics
