MikeVB
Proud new owner of a reissue 1939 Gibson J-35 custom-made for Fuller's Vintage Guitar in Houston, TX. Love it. Can't put it down. First guitar I've owned w/o Martin-style heel. Where's the best location to install the strap button on the heel? Thanks.
guitarstrummer
The best place is on the treble side of the heel. It's not too hard to do it yourself, but if you've never done it before, you might want to have someone else do it for you. You could split the wood if you're not careful. MikeVB
I've done it on several Martins and others with similar heels. Just wondered if on that flat Gibson heel if it's ok to put it in essentially the same spot.
Red 333
Can't help you with the strap button, but congrats on the J 35. I have one myself, and it's a GREAT guitar. Does yours have a very chunky neck? The reason I ask is I saw another Fuller's J35 with a shallower neck than mine. The neck on mine is a great big thing, but it's surprisingly comfortable. MikeVB
Certainly not a modern, thinline neck by any means. I've been playing Martin GEs for a couple years and a dread that I built as a close copy of my D-18GE. So, I guess the neck on this Gibson just feels "normal." Probably doesn't answer your question. But I love the short scale and 1 3/4 nut just like on a 000-18GE I had. Except this guitar's got a bigger sound, so to me it's an excellent compromise between the pros of both the 000 and the dread w/o the drawbacks of either. guitarstrummer
That's the location where I have it on all of my Gibsons.
Dave in SLC
LOVE my Fullers '39 reissue J-35, even 'tho it's one from a previous series with Sitka top instead of Addie. It has just opened up enough to give me the 'warmth' I want when playing back-up guitar with a lot of bass runs. Just perfect! Dave in SLC
