Here's the crack in finish, doesn't feel structural... some sort of over spray there as well..very odd.

That looks pretty normal. I was talking about cracks in the body that run parrallel to the neck. Looks like you don't have any, that's a good sign.

BTW, Naptha should wipe all those sigs right off, as well as any other detritus, without affecting the finish. You can get it at Home Depot and Lowes, and it's relatively cheap.

You can use it on the fretboard too, it's a standard cleaning product used in most guitar repair shops and factories, and it doesn't stink as bad as some other products.

Tnx :) Dry erase marker worked like a charm... though your suggestion sounds much faster. This body has been beat up and the finish surely has a relic look to it but it will work for now :) Like I said I'll redo it in the spring.

Sneak Peek! :)

Ha! I know I was watching it as well.. I thought the price would come down more on the second go'round. I waited for it to die and contacted him and made a private sale on the item. The guitar actually looks decent.. waiting for tuners and TRC. Brianh was kind enough to mail me traces for the backplate and rod cover :) special tnx for that :) So I will craft the back cover and have a TRC on order.. will see if that fits (designed for Epi Casino).

I'm really happy with how well the Epi SG parts just plugged in. No mods needed for hardware or electronics.. really lucked out there. (* correction.. had to open up the coil tap hole to handle the input)

I fixed the neck separation issue and double checked truss rod mobility and it moves.

WOW!!!

Can't wait to see the ol girl when she's completely made up [thumbup]

I managed to get the thing strung up last night while working on the wiring and nut.. HOLY *&%(*.. I could not put the thing down. I will wait until it is complete to post pix but even in the shape it is in right now it is one of the most insanely rad guitars I have ever played.. such huge tone and sustain.. it is hard to put into words how cool it is.. very much of a Les Paul old-school Gibby tone with some very unique characteristics.

Here's what is left:

Backplate, TRC, some more finish clean up, action - intonation - truss adjustments, pickup adjustments and I'll be done.

That's EXACTLY how I guessed it would sound! With the wood and the way it's constructed! Classic Les Paul!

Gotta save some cash, think that's gonna be my next addition!

Oh, and those Mighty Mite pups are pretty hot aren't they?

I had one in an old Melody Maker long ago, and MAN that little axe JAMMED!

Post some more pics!

Yes the Mighty MItes put out big time!! Really enjoy em and very affordable as well. Those pickups in a melody maker...!... that's a great combo!

Backplate created! :) Special thanks to Brianh for traces, Coors Light and a rotary tool :) ! Almost there guys.. Strap buttons and truss rod cover and it is complete.. waiting till then for final pix.

I will highly encourage anyone to buy one of these guitars. Don't think about it.. grab one.

Great to see the old girl resurrected Joe - and an outstanding job.

if I had known that body was in such good shape I would have bought it myself.

Goodonya for seeing past the grafitti and miserable treatment that guitar had to endure.

Cheers, Brian

Tnx! :) Kinda lucked out. I'm gonna leave the finish alone actually it's fine. Gave it a good polish/buff and it really came alive. I can live with the dings here and there. Now I want a custom :).. uh oh.. do I have what you have?

Man she looks good! GREAT job! How's it play (action)?

Heavy as a "Paul" huh?

Plays crazy good. Was popping little e strings at first cuz the break height was pretty extreme and there was a bur in the stop... cleaned that up and decreased the break angle to match the angle past the nut and it is dialed.

Honestly and I'm not just saying this because I'm partial to this guitar.. and I'll probably get crap for saying this but this guitar out plays any Les Paul i've put my ands on Gibson or Epi. Mind you I have not played 100s of Pauls.. and I will own one of those one day as well. I really feel like the designer of the Genesis was out on a critical mission to do something outside of just create another guitar.. and they did it. You can feel it.

Again I highly encourage anyone who gets off on tone, sustain, and unique character in a low cost guitar to get one.

Well.......................Now that's how I've always though a Genesis would be! EXCELLENT!

And I see why brianh hardly ever says anything like that about the ones he has!

HE WANTS ALL OF THEM! LOL (just kidding brian!) [thumbup]

Man I wish I'd got that! She sure looks good! Glad for ya man!
