scott74
I was bought this guitar as a gift 6 months ago. My wife was told it's a Melody Maker 1964 issue. I have looked on Wikipedia to try and tie it down, but some details look a little sketchy. I have a white pick up in the case, there is a black one on it at the moment. There are two small marks a few inches down from the bridge, that look like something esle used to live there. Many thanks in advance. I can't upload the pics for some reason. BigKahune
The MM used a LP body style until '65 . . . . . . . . . (I've got a '65 double cut in my avatar) Gibson switched the MM body style in '66 to that of the SG through '71. So it can't be a '64. It's from 66 to 71. A single coil pup. I would guess the white pup is the original and the black pup was added. Here's your pic -
Deacon Blue
A friend of mine had a melody maker exactly like yours except it was a blue sparkle color. This was in 1969, so the late sixties would make sense.
TommyK
It's a Bargain basement Gibson. It is likely the cheapest one which has The Gibson logo. Cheaper than most electric Epiphones. Here are the current Gibson MM offerings: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Melody-Maker.aspx
