icantbuyafender
Im torn between 2 sets of trusty pickups. i love the 490R/T set with the nickel covers, and I've also got a set of BB1 and BB2. My LP studio has nickel covered 490R/498T in it stock, and i plan on replacing them with uncovered ones... The question is, for a chambered studio (2008 model), which set would be more beneficial ? I play mostly southern bluesy/rock stuff (think Skynyrd)as well as classic rock styles and a touch of jazz. Opinions would be greatly appreciated as well as a bit of reasoning too. thanks in advance guys
Tim Plains
Burstbuckers or Burstbucker Pros? In any event - the answer to your question is put in the 490/498, play the guitar for a while and then but in the BBs for a while. Decide which pickups you like more and keep those ones in the guitar. Replacing pickups is a simple procedure that almost anyone can do and doesn't take very long. Watch a few youbtube videos on how to do this and you'll be a pro in no time.
icantbuyafender
the BBs are the unpotted ones, numbers 1 and 2 I want a balanced musical sound. I don't use much gain, but I do dabble a bit in it. I'd rather hit hard and drive the preamp to get crunch I'd like for there to be no hum and hiss for practice with a full band. Riffster
I don't have experience with the 490s but BBs 1 and 2 don't do gain all that well, they are vintage voiced. Overdrive sounds good but after a point they get muddy. Both pickups have alnico 2 magnets.
