Identity crisis

Redhawk Auctions

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I know next to nothing about guitars, but since I'm an eBay Seller

a friend wants me to sell one for her.

I have pictures but this is my first time here and don't know how to

post them.

The name on the PAINTED Red, head says it's a Gibson and she thinks

it was made in the late fifties, and worth several hundred dollars, but

that's all she can tell me about it. Which is no where NEAR the amount

of information I would need to auction it.

I've done a ton of research on the Internet using what little

information I have but keep hitting dead ends.

This forum is my last hope before I have to disappoint her and

tell her I can't do it. (she really needs the money right now)

It would help if someone could just tell me if Gibson even made

an acoustic flat top that the front of the body and the head

was PAINTED (not stained) Red?

And/or tell me how to post pics here so it can be SEEN.

I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me toward

obtaining information on it.

One suggestion for pics that is quick, easy and reliable. Go to tinypic.com. You do not need an account or log in and it's free. Upload a pic, then once it's uploaded, copy and paste what is displayed in the "IMG code for forums & message boards" box.

I've never seen or heard of a Gibson with a painted red headstock. At least not an acoustic.

She can need the money all day long but it is what it is, and ain't what it ain't.

Photobucket.com is also a good choice. You can upload photos from your computer to Photobucket which is a "hosting" site with no charges to users. Then once they are on photobucket (I keep it in a separate window on my desktop) click the icon above the posting area that looks like a mountain with a red sun in the background and it adds the Image brackets. Copy the image tag from photobucket and paste it inbetween the on your screen and poof, the photo appears.

I also have never heard of an acoustic Gibson with a painted headstock but would love to see the photos. Once you do that, I guarentee the forensic experts here on the forum will let you know what you have or don't have.

Thanks KSdaddy and Taylor! I'll get pictures posted as soon as I can.

Yeah, the painted head and body keeps running me into dead ends!

The body may have been painted by a previous owner, but the head LOOKS

factory done, with no paint overlap around the name or even INSIDE

the letters!

Thanks again and watch for the pics in the next day or two.

Good luck with that. While horrendous things have been done to 'upgrade' a perfectly good Gibson, There are many disreputable people out there who take great pains to try to sell a guitar as a Gibson that isn't. Some take less pains. There's also the possibility that a previous owner took a pac rim no-name guit tar and painted "Gibson" on it just for a hoot!

Gibson or not, we all like to look at pics.

Curious.. how can one be an Ebay seller and not know how to upload pictures? Just askin'....
